San Antonio Luncheon Honors Bob Gurwitz and Julian Gold LLC

Spring Event Raises $80,000 for Nation’s #1 Respiratory Hospital, National Jewish Health

More than 200 people attended the 2013 Humanitarian Award Luncheon in San Antonio to honor Bob Gurwitz and his company, Julian Gold LLC. Gurwitz is a longtime National Jewish Health supporter, business and community leader, and philanthropist. The luncheon on April 9 raised $80,000 for National Jewish Health, the nation’s number one respiratory hospital located in Denver.

Gurwitz's steadfast support helps the institution in its mission to care for people from all over the country, including many Texas residents who every year travel to National Jewish Health for treatment of their respiratory, cardiac, immune and related disorders. National Jewish Health also impacts the care Texans receive at home through its education mission, which includes more than 60 Texas physicians who completed their fellowship training at the institution in specialties such as asthma and allergy.

“Today we celebrate 40 years of events supporting National Jewish Health in San Antonio,” National Jewish Health President and CEO Michael Salem, MD, told the crowd. “Over the past four decades, you have raised more than $2.5 million for National Jewish Health, helping us to ensure that we ‘never say never’ to the patients and families who come to us for solutions.”

Among those attending the event were luncheon Chairs Barbara and Alan Dreeben and National Jewish Health Trustees Edith McAllister and Mertie and Dale Wood, MD. Richard T. Schlosberg III is another local Trustee of the institution.

Bob Gurwitz attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration and later received his license as a CPA. He worked as a public accountant before joining Julian Gold, LLC, in 1963. Aside from serving as co-owner and president of Julian Gold, his community involvement includes the University of Texas Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee, the Oak Hills Country Club Board of Governors and the Cancer Therapy and Research Center Board of Governors. He is a former board member of the Golden Home for the Aged and past president of the Jewish Community Center. Bob, along with his wife of 52 years, Gail, have three children and eight grandchildren.
