Dr. Soonho Yoon, International Leader in Thoracic Imaging and Lung Disease Research, Joins National Jewish Health

DENVER - National Jewish Health, the nation’s leading respiratory hospital, today announced that Soonho Yoon, MD, PhD, an internationally recognized thoracic radiologist and physician-scientist, has joined the institution, bringing global expertise in advanced lung imaging, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer and artificial intelligence–assisted diagnostics.

Dr. Yoon comes to National Jewish Health after a distinguished academic career at Seoul National University Hospital, where he most recently served as Clinical Professor in the Thoracic Division of the Department of Radiology. He is widely regarded for his groundbreaking work in artificial intelligence, quantitative lung imaging, low-dose chest CT, interstitial lung disease biomarkers and lung cancer screening, particularly among never-smokers.

Dr. Yoon is internationally known for his leadership in developing and validating advanced imaging biomarkers for lung disease, including CT-based lung elastography and automated image analysis techniques. He also has led research focused on early lung cancer detection in never-smokers and women with a family history of lung cancer, addressing a rapidly emerging and underrecognized patient population.

Dr. Yoon earned his medical degree and doctoral degree through Seoul National University College of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship training in radiology and thoracic imaging at Seoul National University Hospital. He has held successive academic appointments as clinical assistant professor, associate professor and professor, and has served as a visiting professor at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
