Anticoagulation Clinic
The Anticoagulation Clinic at National Jewish Health follows patients who are taking anticoagulant medicines (blood thinners), which help prevent blood clots. If you are taking an anticoagulant, the amount of medicine in your blood should be monitored closely to assure you are getting enough medicine to prevent blood clots, yet not too much to cause bleeding. Regular visits to the Anticoagulation Clinic are important to monitor your blood levels closely. The Anticoagulation Team includes a doctor, nurse, pharmacist and lab members. Learn more.

Cardio-Oncology Program

Some cancer treatments can damage the heart (cardiotoxicity) and cardiovascular system, and lead to heart disease. The Cardio-Oncology Program at National Jewish Health seeks to limit potential damage to the heart from chemotherapy and radiation therapy while improving survival and quality of life for our patients. For patients with an increased risk of heart damage from cancer treatments, it’s important to have a cardio-oncologist evaluates cancer patients who are showing signs of heart disease and those at risk of developing heart conditions. The cardio-oncologist treats cardiotoxicity to prevent or limit harmful effects of cancer drugs on the heart.

National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado, has one of the most robust cardio-oncology programs in the Rocky Mountain region. Our cardio-oncologists work with cancer patients and their doctors to prevent and treat heart conditions that are side effects of cancer treatment. Learn more.

Exertional Dyspnea Program
Shortness of breath is often the result of dysfunction of the heart, lungs, or both. Our exertional dyspnea program uses a multidisciplinary approach to successfully diagnose, treat and monitor this disease. A team of experts from multiple specialties and diagnostic tools from our Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging yield a precise diagnosis. Our specialty is in the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction (abnormal heart relaxation), pulmonary hypertension, intracardiac shunt (at rest or exercise-induced), coronary disease and systolic heart failure.

Pulmonary hypertension results from a restricted flow of blood through the pulmonary arteries. Our cardiac experts can give your heart a thorough evaluation to assess heart function, valvular function, diastolic function, and other forms of cardiac dysfunction. Using a multidisciplinary approach from pulmonary, cardiac and rheumatology perspectives yields an accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan that gets results. National Jewish Health is one of the few recognized pulmonary hypertension treatment and evaluation centers in the region. We specialize in the evaluation and treatment of pulmonary hypertension cases of all complexities. Learn more about our Pulmonary Hypertension Center.
