Dr. Kevin Rurak Joins National Jewish Health Pulmonary Hypertension Team


DENVER —

Kevin Rurak, MD, has joined the National Jewish Health team as a pulmonologist in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. He specializes in diagnosing and treating pulmonary vascular diseases. He also has expertise in cardiopulmonary physiology including pulmonary function tests and cardiopulmonary exercise tests (CPET). His clinical focus is treating patients with pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism, as well as evaluating complex, unexplained shortness of breath. Dr. Rurak sees patients at the National Jewish Health main campus in Denver.

Dr. Rurak completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. During the COVID-19 pandemic he conducted research on mechanisms of hypoxemia in moderate to critical COVID-19, including patients with COVID-19 acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which was published in the journal Pulmonary Circulation. His current and future research plans center on pulmonary physiology, pulmonary vascular disease and advanced cardiopulmonary testing to diagnose unexplained dyspnea.

Dr. Rurak received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia with certification in Population Health. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnermann University Hospital, Philadelphia. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.
