National Jewish Health Welcomes Radiologist Brian M. Smiley, MD
DENVER - National Jewish Health is pleased to welcome Brian M. Smiley, MD, a nationally trained cardiothoracic radiologist with deep expertise in interstitial lung disease, lung cancer screening and cardiovascular imaging. Dr. Smiley brings a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to advanced imaging that supports the institution’s leadership in diagnosing and treating complex pulmonary and cardiovascular conditions.
Dr. Smiley is particularly known for his ability to integrate imaging with clinical, pathologic and emerging artificial intelligence tools to improve diagnostic accuracy in complex lung disease. Dr. Smiley’s clinical focus includes interstitial lung disease imaging, lung cancer screening, cardiac MRI, cancer CT, and vascular and aortic imaging. He is known for his versatility as a radiologist and his ability to read across subspecialties, allowing him to see the full clinical picture. His work supports team-based conferences where radiology, pulmonology, pathology and other specialties come together to review complex cases.
He served as director of Cardiovascular Imaging Education and was often the radiology representative for the multidisciplinary conference on Interstitial Lung Disease at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he taught medical students, residents and fellows. He has delivered lectures nationally by invitation and has moderated sessions at the Society of Thoracic Radiology Annual Meeting.
Dr. Smiley earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and completed his radiology residency at Detroit Medical Center, followed by a cardiothoracic imaging fellowship at Michigan Medicine. He is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of multiple national radiology and cardiothoracic imaging societies.
