Greg Downey, MD, Begins Term as President of American Thoracic Society


DENVER, CO —

Gregory DowneyThe American Thoracic Society (ATS) announced this week that Gregory P. Downey, MD, will serve as president for 2022-2023.  Dr. Downey is Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at National Jewish Health, where he also serves as Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics, and Immunology and Genomic Medicine. Dr. Downey oversees all academic and research programs at National Jewish Health and holds the Drs. Harold & Mary Zirin Chair in pulmonary biology. In addition, he is professor of medicine and immunology and microbiology and associate dean of Health Affairs at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
  

“I am honored to serve ATS in this leadership capacity,” said Dr. Downey. “I look forward to expanding the educational offerings this organization provides and to growing the ATS Research Programs as well as enhancing our strategies for disseminating new science.”

Dr. Downey’s research and clinical interests include pulmonary cell biology and acute lung injury. He has published more than 230 peer-reviewed scientific articles, editorials and book chapters, and his publications have been cited more than 20,000 times. He has received numerous honors for outstanding contributions throughout this career.
