The researchers are assessing whether toxins (superantigens) producing bacteria may be contributing to the features of systemic inflammation and vascular inflammation in this syndrome. Identification of microbial superantigens, as a cause of multisystem-inflammatory syndrome in children, suggest the possibility that these children may benefit from high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin therapy.
