Description
This quantitative urea nitrogen test, performed with a random urine specimen, may help estimate nitrogen balance and determine protein need in patients in critical conditions or receiving intravenous administration of nutrition.
Collect
Aliquot from a random urine sample.
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 0.3 mL aliquot from a random urine
Storage Transport Temp
Offsite: Frozen. Send urine aliquot Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
Stability
Analyze Immediately at RT (15-25°C)
48 hours refrigerated at 2-8°C
Notes
Random urine sample is the only acceptable sample type.
