SSB
Test Code
SSB
Description
SSB (or La) is a 48 KDa protein that combines with RNA. SSB antibodies are found in 5-15% of SLE patients and 25% of random Sjogren’s patients and in approximately 60% of Sjogren’s patients with sicca complex. SSB antibodies are almost always found to occur simultaneously with SSA antibodies.
This assay is intended for the semi-quantitative detection of SSB antibodies in human serum. The presence of these antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and related connective tissue diseases, such as Sjogren’s disease.
