SSA/Ro, Sjogren's Disease Antibody

Test Code

SSA

Description

SSA (or Ro) is comprised of two protein antigens of 52 kDa and 60 kDa that combine with RNA. SSA antibodies are found in 40-60% of patients with Sjogren’s disease and in 25- 35% of patients with ANA positive Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or lupus). SSA antibodies can occur alone or together with SSB antibodies.

This assay is intended for the semi-quantitative detection of SSA antibodies in human serum.

The presence of these antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of SLE and related connective tissue diseases, such as Sjogren’s disease.
