Description
In emergency department and outpatient populations quanititative determination of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in human serum and plasma to aid in the diagnosis of heart failure in patients with clinical suspicion of new onset or worsening heart failure.Collect
Plain red top or SST tube. Preferred volume: 1 mL serumPediatric Collection
< / = 74 years old: < / = 125 pg/ml> / = 75 years old: < / = 450 pg/ml

Onsite [NJH]: Transport to lab within 1 hour. Separate serum from cells within 2 hours by centrifugeOffsite: Separate serum from cells within 2 hours by centrifuge and aliquot into a labeled polypropylene or similar plastic tube.
Offsite: Frozen. Send serum Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
