Mon-Thur
Methodology
Flow Cytometry
Turnaround Time
7-9 days
Department
Immunology Lab - Functional Assay
Synonyms
Flow Cytometry (Interferon Gamma and IL-17 Producing CD4 T Cells);TH17 (Interferon Gamma and IL-17 Producing CD4 T Cells)
Reference Interval
- TH17 > 0.3% of CD4 T cells
- TH1 > 5.3% of CD4 T cells
Interpretation
Mutations of the gene encoding STAT3 are associated with the Hyper IgE syndrome (HIES). Because development of TH17 cells is dependent on STAT3, patients with HIES may have depressed levels of TH17 cells, thereby resulting in a compromised ability to fight infections. Analysis of the percentage of circulating TH17 cells assists in the evaluation of HIES.
