Anti-Nuclear Antibodies
Test Code
ANA
Description
Anti-Nuclear Antibodies are Auto-antibodies that bind to contents of the cell nucleus. In normal individuals, the immune system produces antibodies to foreign proteins (antigens) but not to human proteins (autoantigens). This screening test intended for the semiquantitative detection of Sm, RNP, SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70 and Jo-1 antibodies in human serum. The presence of these antibodies can be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to aid in the diagnosis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and related connective tissue diseases, such as Sjogren’s disease, scleroderma and myositis.
