Anti-Double-stranded DNA antibody
Test Code
DSDNA
Description
High titers of antibodies to double stranded DNA (dsDNA) are associated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, or lupus). The titers of anti-dsDNA antibodies may decrease with successful therapy and increase in acute recurrence of the disease. Also, DNA-anti-dsDNA antibody complexes play a role in pathogenesis of SLE through the deposition of immune complexes in the kidney and other tissues.
This test uses indirect immunofluorescent antibody (IFA) microscopic procedures and a substrate from Crithidia luciliae (a type of flagellate parasite) to detect antibodies to dsDNA.
Collect
Serum separator tube or a red top tube.
