Recent studies have emphasized the role of epithelial alarmins—particularly IL-33—in driving immune responses and exacerbations in chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, and acute viral respiratory infections. IL-33 stands out due to its dual role in type-2 immune responses and antiviral defense mechanisms. IL-33 not only amplifies inflammation during viral infections like influenza and SARS-CoV-2 but also contributes to chronic airway remodeling and dysfunction. Understanding the interactions among IL-33, IL-25, and TSLP can unlock novel insights into respiratory disease pathophysiology and inform innovative therapeutic strategies.
This CME breakfast symposium, presented by National Jewish Health, will bring together leading pulmonologists, allergists/immunologists, and critical care specialists for a moderated panel to explore multidisciplinary perspectives on IL-33 and other epithelial alarmins in respiratory disease management. The panel will discuss real-world clinical cases to deepen attendees’ understanding of respiratory pathophysiology and guide the application of evidence-based strategies to personalize patient care.
