Redente, Riches and Bridges lab

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.

Cody Schott, MD, PhD

Post-doctoral Pulmonary Fellow

Education

Northwestern University, BA, 2013
University of Illinois at Chicago, PhD, 2021
University of Illinois at Chicago, MD, 2021

Background

Dr. Schott graduated with a bachelors degree in biology. He pursued dual degree training where he studied clinical markers of progressive sarcoidosis. From these studies, he developed an interest in the mechanisms driving pulmonary fibrosis prompting him to pursue pulmonary fellowship at the University of Colorado and National Jewish Health. As a member of the Redente Laboratory, he has investigated the mechanisms by which genetic predisposition to fibrosis lead to downstream dysregulation of the injury response and fibrogenesis in a pre-clinical model. In his free time, you’ll find him singing K-pop Demon Hunters to his daughter.

Ben Edelman, BA

Background

Ben joined the lab of Dr. Riches (and now works with Dr. Redente) in the early 2000s after studying Molecular and Cellular Biology and Spanish at the University of Arizona.   His research has mainly focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying the development of pulmonary fibrosis, and more recently how protecting alveolar fibroblasts in the context of cigarette smoke injury can prevent airspace enlargement.  Outside the lab Ben enjoys traveling, hiking, and golfing.

Nomin Javkhlan, BS, MS

Education

Bachelor of Science in Biology and Biotechnology
Master of Science in Biomedical Science and Biotechnology University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Background

Fabienne Gally, PhD, is a researcher at National Jewish Health. Dr. Gally is in the Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine. Her research areas include basic immunology, cellular and molecular biology, inflammation, innate immunity, lung cell biology, asthma and COPD. Dr. Gally studies lung host defense mechanisms in COPD. Particularly, she focuses on revealing the mechanisms underlying the increased susceptibility to respiratory bacterial infections in COPD.

Jasmine Wilson, BA

Education

University of Colorado Boulder, BA, 2020

Background

Jasmine graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB). She started in the Redente lab in June of 2021. She really enjoys working with her colleagues collaborating on projects and learning new laboratory techniques. Outside of the lab, she enjoys traveling, trying new foods, and spending time with friends.
