Morgridge Academy is a tuition-free, accredited K–8 day school on our campus at National Jewish Health. Our one-of-kind school serves students from across the Denver metro area who live with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, and immune disorders. At Morgridge Academy, students find personalized learning and compassionate care — all in one place.
We help students thrive academically and physically as they become independent and self-reliant. With a dedicated team of teachers, nurses, a child advocate, and a school counselor, the students receive a quality education while learning to manage their illnesses, ultimately enabling them to return to a traditional public school setting.
Morgridge Academy has served more than 2,000 students over diverse backgrounds in our nearly 50-year history. The children who attend benefit from a low student-to-nurse ratio, a clinic equipped with medical supplies and experienced nurses, the seamless integration of medical and educational services, and the ready availability of expert physicians at National Jewish Health.
Morgridge Academy is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of chronically ill children in Metro Denver. When they receive the medical support they need, our students excel academically, socially and physically.
Students enrolled at Morgridge Academy follow a rigorous academic program, that incorporates STEM, reading enrichment and problem-based learning, augmented by arts and athletics. Our curriculum emphasizes state educational standards while encouraging advanced work for students in areas of special interest and competence.
Small classes encourage both group and individual learning experiences. With proper support for their conditions, our students show extraordinary improvement on various academic tests, including i-Ready, an assessment tool used in schools throughout the country.
Most of our students’ families face financial barriers, compounded by high medical costs of managing a chronic illness. Currently, about 89% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. With philanthropic support, Morgridge Academy provides the educational and medical care that our students need to succeed, regardless of circumstance.
Managing a chronic illness can dominate daily life — from the overwhelming steps involved in everyday care, to the logistics of frequent medical appointments. In traditional school settings, chronically ill children miss school due to illness, sit on the sidelines during physical education, and make frantic visits to the emergency room.
When our students enroll at Morgridge Academy, their families see changes for better. School attendance and participation in athletics drastically improve. Academic success measures climb steadily as students are able to focus on learning without the increased stress of managing their illness on their own. Morgridge Academy makes the difference for chronically ill children in Denver, helping them unlock their potential with essential support.
