Since 1980, National Jewish Health has presented the prestigious Spirit of Achievement Award to citizens in and around Albuquerque who have built a legacy of contributing their time, talents and resources in all areas of life – personal, business and civic – to the community.
The event is a mainstay among business, philanthropic and political leaders in the area, and has raised more than $1 million since its inception. The funds raised at the event benefit patients in New Mexico and around the country who receive care from National Jewish Health in Denver for respiratory, immune, cardiac and related diseases.

Finding Answers in Familiar Places
In January 2015, Marla Wood caught whatever was going around her office. The doctor told her, “It’s a bug. Hold your breath; you’ll get over it,” but she didn’t get over it. While her co-workers’ health improved, hers only got worse.
An Innovative Cure Gave This Child a New Lease on Life
Caleb MacDonald is one of a handful of people in the world allergic to the only medication that can treat his hemophilia. With nowhere else to turn, his family found Jordon Abbott, MD, an assistant professor in the National Jewish Health Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Abbott could find no report of a case like Caleb’s, so he devised a novel, cutting-edge solution. And it worked.
People from around the nation, including New Mexico, come to National Jewish Health seeking solutions no one else has found. Get a glimpse into how the answers they seek are found at National Jewish Health.
