Qian Qian, PhD

Qian Qian, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Qian obtained his Master’s Degree in Genetics and PhD in Immunology from the Soochow University, China. During his Master’s years he focused on cancer epigenetics, linking increased methylation of the decorin gene to metastatic potential of lung cancer cells.  He then developed an interest in immunology and chose it as a subject of his PhD work. In his PhD thesis, he described importance of Toll-like receptor signaling in the pathogenesis of virus-induced myocarditis. Qian joined our lab in March 2015. Currently, he is trying to elucidate molecules and pathways that are responsible for NK cell programming in the context of maternal exposure to DEPs.

Bidisha Paul Chowdhury, PhD

Bidisha Paul Chowdhury, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Bidisha obtained her PhD from the Bose Institute and University of Calcutta, India. For her PhD, she studied the immune response to the intracellular parasite Leishmania donovani and how various bacteria-derived immunomodulators modify this response. She joined our lab in March 2017. She is currently exploring negative feedback loops and inhibitory pathways in offspring of diesel exhaust-exposed mothers. These inhibitory pathways are activated in an attempt to reduce effects of pro-inflammatory signals received from the mothers. The translational goal of this project is to test whether offspring asthma can be prevented by increasing the strength of these inhibitory pathways. Bidisha is also testing blood samples from diesel exhaust-exposed children with asthma for activation of various cells that we identified in our mouse model.
