Mycobacterial and Nocardia Isolate Identification

Molecular TB Testing Performed 7 Days a Week

National Jewish Health Mycobacteriology Laboratory receives mycobacterial and nocardia isolates for identification from several hundred clinical and veterinary laboratories throughout the United States.

Identification is performed using multiple methods, including genetic probes (MTB complex), DNA sequencing and biochemicals (if needed).

Rule In/Rule Out Tuberculosis

Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex is a public health concern; therefore, our laboratory strives to rule in/rule out tuberculosis first.

Our laboratory will provide a subculture to the respective state public health laboratory for genotyping submission upon request. Please call us at 303.398.1339 for more information.

Molecular Identification of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria

Molecular assays, including rpoB gene and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, are used for identification. Additional distinction within the group Mycobacterium abscessus are made using molecular assays for erm(41) and hsp65 genes.
