Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Symptoms

The symptoms of IBD that relate specifically to the intestinal tract include:

  • Persistent diarrhea
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Urgent need to move bowels
  • Abdominal cramps and pain
  • Sensation of incomplete evacuation (tenesmus)
  • Constipation (bowel obstruction)

General symptoms of IBD are:

  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Loss of normal menstrual cycle
