Michael E. Wechsler, MD, MMSc

Michael Wechsler, MD, MMSC, joined National Jewish Health as director of the Asthma Program in 2012 and has been a professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine since 2014. His research interests focus on clinical and transitional asthma research with three main areas of investigation: 1) asthma genetics and personalized medicine; 2) clinical trials in asthma; and 3) Churg-Strauss Syndrome.

He was the principal investigator of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Asthma Clinical Research Network’s LARGE trial; the results were published in Lancet.

He also served as the assistant director of the Asthma Research Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 2000 to 2006 and was associate director there from 2006 to 2012.

Louis DePalo,

Louis DePalo, MD FACCP, is a graduate of Georgetown University and New York Medical College. He has a graduate degree in Human Physiology and has conducted extensive research in cell and molecular biology. Dr. DePalo's research interests include the study of human airway smooth muscle cell function, sarcoidosis and advanced lung diseases. He has also contributed to research on the genetics of sarcoidosis and research programs related to pulmonary hypertension and lung transplantation.

Michael Salem, MD

President and CEO
National Jewish Health

Michael Salem, MD, has been president and CEO of National Jewish Health since January 2006.

He spent five years on the faculty at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and as a surgeon and critical care physician at George Washington University Hospital. He rose to become the director of trauma and critical care, co-director of the Intensive Care Unit, and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery.

Beginning in 1999, Dr. Salem helped launch GMP Companies Inc., a Florida-based health care company that develops and commercializes biotechnology and medical technology products and product candidates made primarily by academic researchers. He has also delivered surgical care on international medical missions to Vietnam and Israel.
