CT is used for detecting a variety of conditions and is widely considered the gold standard in detecting lung abnormalities. All examinations are performed with the lowest possible radiation dose to the patient. A PET/CT scanner detects cells which are hypermetabolic (use more glucose than other cells). The PET scanner uses crystals which recognize energy levels from certain radiopharmaceuticals, which gives PET its functional/cellular imaging property. This test will evaluate the blood flow and circulation to the heart muscle under rest and stress conditions. Comparison scanning is done to evaluate blood flow in the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. In addition to localizing vessels with blockages, it will evaluate cardiac wall motion and calculate left ventricular ejection factions to provide information about the pumping function of the heart.
