Collect a 24 hour urine sample.
Pour off at least 15 mL from the 24 hour urine container into a labeled specimen cup. Note original total volume on label.

Random urine sample is unacceptable.
Frozen. Send urine specimen container Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice. Note original total volume on label.
Frozen samples are stable for one month. Samples stored at 2 to 8°C are stable for one week.
24 hour urine is the only acceptable sample type.
Prefer to receive entire 24 hour urine container rather than a poured off specimen.
Agarose gel electrophoresis
Immunofixation (IFE). Only ordered by lab after protein electrophoresis has been reviewed by pathologist.
Interpretation provided by pathologist.
