Collect a saliva sample using the following procedure: Have patient chew on a sterile 2x2 gauze for 2-5 minutes (as though chewing gum) - Do not swallow gauze or saliva produced. Place gauze into the barrel of a sterile 20cc syringe. Squeeze saliva into
a plain red top tube and send tube to the lab (discard syringe and gauze).
Transport to the lab as soon as possible after collection. Keep frozen.
Preferred volume: 1 mL saliva
Minimum volume: 0.2 mL of saliva
Frozen. Send specimen Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
Batch tested, generally alternate Fridays.
