Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL)/ Bronchial Wash Fluid: Collect 10-40 mL (1 mL minimum) in a sterile container.
Sputum: Collect 1 mL in a sterile container.
Biopsy: 1 fragment (minimum) of lung tissue in 1 mL of sterile 1X PBS solution (provided by Molecular Diagnostics Lab)
Nasal Wash/Aspriate Fluid: Collect 10-40 mL (1 mL minimum) in a sterile container.
Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL)/ Bronchial Wash Fluid: Collect 1 mL minimum in a sterile container.
Sputum: Collect 1 mL (minimum) in a sterile container.
Nasal Wash/Aspriate Fluid: Collect 1 mL minimum in a sterile container.
Specimens must be transported and stored refrigerated until testing.
Local [internal] specimens may be transported at room temperature on the day of collection but must be stored at 2-8 °C upon receipt.
Ship remote [external] specimens on a cold pack - DO NOT FREEZE. Do not ship on weekends.
This assay will detect Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophilia Pneumoniae at extremely low levels; however, overall test accuracy is dependent upon sample collection. The most comprehensive results for this assay are obtained from a combination of sample types and sample sites.
Within 14 days from when specimen is received in the laboratory.
