Collect in a plain red top tube
Specimen Preparation
Transfer the cell-free serum to a clean tube and freeze the cell-free serum on dry ice or at -70°C within 2 hours after draw.
Preferred volume: 1 mL serum, frozen
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 250 µL serum, frozen
Unacceptable Conditions
Thawed specimen.
Storage Transport Temp
Send frozen serum Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice to arrive M-F only.
Stability
Frozen at -70°C: 1 year
Notes
Autoantibodies to Factor H, can block the function of the control protein, allowing for inappropriate activation of the alternative pathway of complement. Factor H Autoantibody has been associated with atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS), also known as complement related HUS.
