Two full 10 mL red top vacutainers warmed to body temperature, no preservatives, no serum separators. Serum from a plain red top is the only acceptable sample type. Gel barrier tubes are not acceptable.
Specimen Preparation
Allow blood to clot completely at 37°C for 1 hour. Centrifuge warm (room temp is ok if 37°C is not available) to thoroughly remove cells, Then immediately transfer cell-free serum to clean tube.
Preferred volume: 10mL serum
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 10 mL serum
Storage Transport Temp
Send serum Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container at ambient temperature.
Notes
It is CRITICAL that the specimen be kept warm while the blood is clotting. The cryoprecipitate may be lost in the clot if the blood becomes chilled.
