Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship Download Application Form Find CME/CE Postdoc Inquiry WELCOME! The cardiothoracic imaging fellowship program is a 1 year training program. We offer a joint fellowship with the ACGME-accredited University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU). The joint program at National Jewish Health and CU Anschutz consistently ranks among the top hospitals in the country for adult pulmonology and lung surgery. CU Anschutz is the main academic and teaching institution for the Rocky Mountain Region. This fellowship offers extraordinary opportunities for continued learning, research and clinical interactions, designed to develop broad-based expertise in all forms of non-invasive cardiothoracic imaging and image processing. The program is non-ACGME and does not participate in the National Resident Matching Program. National Jewish Health is an international referral center for clinical care of pulmonary diseases, and includes a diverse population of outpatients with respiratory and cardiac disease. The practice is enriched by a large population of patients with interstitial lung disease, asthma, COPD, and occupational lung disease. At CU Anschutz there is a more general population of patients requiring chest imaging studies, with particular emphasis on thoracic oncology, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiothoracic surgery, including a large lung transplantation program. Upon completion of the program, fellows will be able to image all forms of chest and cardiovascular disease with appropriate tools and to answer clinical questions with confidence and a great degree of expertise. Please watch this video to learn more about our program. Faculty and Interests The thoracic radiology section is internationally recognized for its expertise, and enjoys an equally high local reputation. The position offers daily interaction with a world-renowned cadre of radiologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, thoracic oncologists, and thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons. The faculty radiologists include Drs. David Lynch (Program Director), Tami Bang, Debra Dyer, Valerie Hale, Tilman Koelsch, Shawn Teague, Daniel Vargas (Program Co-Director), Peter Sachs, Thomas Suby-Long and Nicole Restauri. The faculty cardiologists include Drs. Research Opportunities We have leadership roles in several multicenter studies of diffuse lung disease, including COPDGene. Areas of interest of our group include interstitial lung disease, airways disease, asthma, emphysema, sarcoidosis, quantitative lung imaging, aorta, adult congenital heart disease, and screening for lung cancer. We have funded research projects in many of these areas and access to patient databases at National Jewish Health for research purposes. Research opportunities include publication of case reports, case series of uncommon lung disease, and analytic studies of many forms of diffuse lung disease. The Quantitative Imaging Laboratory (QIL) is under the direction of Stephen M. Humphries, Ph.D., Imaging Scientist, and currently focuses on image analysis of radiologic CT images providing a wealth of research data in COPD, asthma and lung fibrosis. Conferences and Mentorship The fellow will participate actively in multi-disciplinary conferences dealing with pulmonary medicine, adult congenital heart disease, interstitial lung disease, CTEPH, airway disease, mycobacterial disease, occupational medicine, Tumor/Nodule Conference and radiologic-pathologic correlation. Mentorship will be provided for completion of a research project. Library Facilities Library services and facilities are available through both institutions. Fellows have privileges at the Health Sciences Library at University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus and the Tucker Medical Library at National Jewish Health. Between the two libraries, fellows have online access to all major radiology journals, some electronic books, medical databases, and STATdx Radiology. Both facilities are conducive to quiet study and research, including WiFi connections for laptops. Librarians are available to consult on computerized MEDLINE searching and other publications issues. Article linking and full document delivery services are available. The National Jewish Health Imaging Department's own library complements these services with a comprehensive selection of imaging books, journals and teaching files.
