Brian Day

Brian J. Day, PhD

Professor of Medicine

Led by Brian J. Day, PhD, the MOOR supports our research programs through two sections, the Basic Science Section and the Clinical and Translational Research Section.

These sections have developed a number of programs that support the DOM’s research activities. Their long-term goals are the development and funding of individual investigators; increasing overall grant funding success rates, to foster communication and collaboration among the institutions Departments, scientists and clinicians; and to promote the integration of basic science investigation and findings into the clinic.

Hong Wei Chu

Hong Wei Chu, MD

Professor of Medicine

The Basic Science Section (BSS), led by Hong Wei Chu, MD, is an interdivisional program in the Department of Medicine that facilitates and promotes basic science discovery at National Jewish Health. The BSS has faculty whose diverse research interests in respiratory biology include cell signaling, free radical biology, drug development, acquired and innate immunity, air pollutants, lung toxicants, and genetics. These research interests focus on the pathogenesis of a number of lung disorders, including acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) allergies, asthma, bronchitis, chronic beryllium disease, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, lung cancer, pneumoconiosis, pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory infections and sarcoidosis.

Lisa Maier

Lisa A. Maier, MD, MSPH

Professor of Medicine

The Clinical/Translational Research (CTR) section, led by Lisa A. Maier, MD, MSPH, is a multi-disciplinary program that fosters and supports transformative clinical and translational research efforts to ensure integration of research, and ultimately, to improve the care of our patients. Our researchers study established disease manifestations, and seek optimal patient treatment. We are making strides in predicting, preventing, and tracking, many diseases, to develop precision and individualized medicine. We translate the lessons of basic science, and apply them to disease. At National Jewish Health, we attract world-class physician scientists who conduct leading-edge scientific investigation.
