Statement Regarding the Passing of Dedicated Board Member Leonard Perlmutter
The Board of Directors, Faculty and Staff were saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend and devoted leader – Leonard M. Perlmutter. Len passed away on July 8, 2018.
Len was a dedicated ambassador for National Jewish Health for more than 40 years. He was a member of the board of the National Asthma Center in 1972, when they merged with our organization. He then became a member of our Board of Directors in 1978. Over the years since, he has served in a variety of key leadership roles, including as Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1983 to 1986. He was on the Executive Committee of the Board since 1980 and was a Lifetime Director. Len led the institution as President and CEO from 1991 to 1993. For his outstanding commitment to National Jewish Health, he was recognized in 1993 with the National Jewish Health Arthur B. Lorber Award for Distinguished Service, the Institution’s highest award.
Len had a long career in the construction business, leading several companies. His many businesses and long time commitment to Colorado enhanced the economy of the city, the state and the region for decades. After his retirement, he served as CEO of the Office of Economic Development for the State of Colorado, as well as Chairman of the Board of Colorado Open Lands. He was an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver. A Denver native, Len, was a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he also attended graduate school.
Len was listed in the “Who’s Who of America,” “Who’s Who in Finance & Industry” and “Who’s Who in the West.” His enthusiasm and passion for success in the private sector extended to numerous civic and community organizations including National Jewish Health.
Len will long be remembered as an inspiring leader and true friend. We will forever miss his presence.
