President and CEO, National Jewish Health
Michael Salem, MD, has been president and CEO of National Jewish Health since January 2006.
He spent five years on the faculty at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and as a surgeon and critical care physician at George Washington University Hospital. He rose to become the director of trauma and critical care, co-director of the Intensive Care Unit, and vice chairman of the Department of Surgery.
Beginning in 1999, Dr. Salem helped launch GMP Companies Inc., a Florida-based health care company that develops and commercializes biotechnology and medical technology products and product candidates made primarily by academic researchers. He has also delivered surgical care on international medical missions to Vietnam and Israel.

Pamela Zeitlin, MD, PhD
Chair, Silverstein Family Departments of Pediatrics, National Jewish Health
Dr. Pamela Zeitlin joined National Jewish Health in December. She will build on existing pediatric clinical and research programs, as well as develop new ones, such as a pediatric aerodigestive program for patients who struggle with breathing, swallowing or have related gastrointestinal problems in addition to respiratory conditions.
Dr. Zeitlin spent the past 28 years at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she has built and overseen many successful pediatric pulmonary, research and faculty education programs. In her career, she has published more than 130 peer-reviewed research articles, as well as a wide variety of reviews and other publications. She has received numerous awards, including the American Thoracic Society’s 2012 Elizabeth A. Rich, MD, Award, which is presented each year to an outstanding woman who has made significant contributions in the fields of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. She was also recognized as Maryland Innovator of the Year in 2006.
She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Stanford University and her medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy in cell biology at Yale University. She completed her residency and fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
