Using the Macintosh Chooser and File Server System to get Internet Applications

How to use the Chooser and the File Servers
Open the
Chooser under the
Apple Menu.
- Select AppleShare (in the upper left corner box).
- Select NJC Medical Library (in the AppleTalk Zones box).
- Select Medical Library Server (from the file server box) and enter OK.
- Click guest and Connect.
- Select Library Resources and enter OK.
- Close the Chooser.
- The Library Resources icon will appear on your desktop. Open it and locate the programs or files that you wish to move.
- Do not use or read the material while in the file server. Click and drag the desired information to your own hard drive.
- Disconnect from the server by placing the server disk icon in the trash.
- Always read the Read-Me documents associated with the material.
Once you have these programs on your own hard drive follow these instructions:
If the program you need is a file with
".sea" (self extracting application) at the end:
- Click on it.
- Respond to the self-extracting program and select a place to put the program.
- Wait for it to be extracted.
- Discard the.sea program.
- Use the extracted program by clicking on it.
If the program you need is an
"installer":
- Move the installer to your hard drive and click on it.
- Respond to the dialog boxes.
- After installation, place the installer program in the trash.

- Telnet is used to connect to remote computers such as library catalogs or commercial database services. You must have Telnet before you can connect to Ovid/MEDLINE and Impulse, the National Jewish Health library catalog.

- Netscape Communicator 4.77 Complete. This is the lastest Netscape version.

- Fetch 3.03
- Fetch is a Macintosh ftp (file transfer protocol) software application. Although you can ftp from a WWW browser, sometimes it is easier to use this utility to transfer documents.
Access the Resources on the Mac OS Software File Server
Open the
Chooser under the
Apple Menu.
- Select AppleShare (in the upper left corner box).
- Select NJC Network Services (in the AppleTalk Zones box).
- Select Mac OS Software (from the file server box) and enter OK.
- Click guest and Connect.
- Select Mac OS Software and enter OK.
Follow the same instructions listed above under,
Medical Library File Server. Start with
"Close the Chooser..." There will be different resources in this File Server.
