Conflict of Interest
The term Conflict of Interest (“COI”) refers especially to situations in which financial or other personal considerations may compromise, or may have the appearance of compromising, an investigator's professional judgment in conducting or reporting research. The bias can affect collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; hiring of staff; procurement of materials; sharing of results; choice of protocol; and the use of statistical methods. Conflicts of Interest can affect all scholarly fields.
It is the policy of National Jewish that the existence of a financial, professional, or business interest relating to any research done by anyone connected with National Jewish will be avoided, eliminated, disclosed, prohibited, or managed.
All National Jewish IRB members, staff, officers and directors involved directly or indirectly in research and research subcontractors are covered by this policy. This policy is shared with all National Jewish employees and it will be consistently enforced throughout the institution. Each individual will complete a COI Declaration form on at least an annual basis and is obligated to update this form promptly as potential conflicts arise.
Failure to file a COI Declaration or material omission or misrepresentation of the facts will be considered a serious violation of National Jewish Policy. At a minimum, a person who fails to file a COI Declaration will be prohibited from submitting new research protocol to the IRB.
COI Declarations are accessed through the National Jewish Intranet, the Spyderweb. For additional information about Conflict of Interests, please contact the Chief Compliance Officer.
