This Advanced Diagnostic Laboratory offers therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). The Pharmacokinetics (PK) Laboratory currently provides comprehensive antimycobacterial, antifungal and anti-HIV drugs and steroids serum concentration monitoring using high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), gas chromatography (LC/GC), and mass spectrometry (LC/MS and LC/MS/MS).
The PK Lab provides testing and consulting support for:
- patient care
- clinical studies
- drug research and pharmaceutical analysis for external and internal researchers
The lab also provides excellent training opportunities.
The primary goal of the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory is to provide assistance to patients, physicians, researchers and clinical laboratory clients.
Our assays can aid in maximizing the therapeutic benefit of these drugs, while potentially minimizing their toxicity. Our laboratory techniques can specifically define concentrations for individual drugs in patients receiving complex, multi-drug regimens without treatment interruption.
TDM can be used to define a patient's drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination. These studies are very important in optimizing the effect of drugs in patients. The techniques are also used to determine if a suitable therapeutic level can be achieved for a test drug at the discovery stage and during clinical trials.
Assays currently offered by the Pharmacokinetics Laboratory include:
abacavir; amikacin; amprenavir; atazanavir; azithromycin; capreomycin; ciprofloxacin; clarithromycin; clofazimine; cortisol; cycloserine; darunavir; delavirdine; efavirenz; emtricitabine; ethambutol; ethionamide; fluconazole; gatifloxacin; indinavir; isoniazid; itraconazole; kanamycin; methylprednisolone; moxifloxacin; lamivudine; levofloxacin; linezolid; lopinavir; nelfinavir; nevirapine; ofloxacin; p-aminosalicylic acid; pyrazinamide; prednisolone; rifabutin; rifampin; rifapentine; ritonavir; saquinavir; sildenafil; stavudine; streptomycin; tipranavir; and voriconazole.
The pharmacokinetics laboratory will continue to add other drugs to the test menu and to develop custom assays for both internal and external customers.
