Dr. Martin’s clinical lab is on the 2nd floor of Goodman and the basic lab is on the 6th floor of the Smith building.

Research Methods

  • Mouse models of live bacterial infection
  • Mouse tracheal epithelial cell isolation
  • Primary airway epithelial cell air-liquid interface cultures
  • Whole cigarette smoke system for cell cultures
  • Animal smoking
  • For humans, all physiologic evaluations and bronchoscopic procedures for biopsy, lavage and brushing sample gathering

Animal models

  • Generated mouse strains (e.g., SPLUNC1 knockout mice)
  • Pathogens and allergens used in mouse models:
  • Human replication deficient adenovirus 5
  • Moraxella catarrhalis
  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae
  • Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi)
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Human subject databases

  • Therapeutic interventions and steroid-resistant models
