National Jewish Health would like to invite you to the 49th Annual Clinical Diabetes & Endocrinology in 2013 continuing medical education conference designed for health care professionals with an interest in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism.


Statement of Need

High-quality continuing education for health care professionals is necessary in order to provide state-of-the-art care to patients with diabetes, obesity and other endocrine-related disorders. Clinical dilemmas to be addressed include the practical management of type 2 diabetes, thyroid dysfunction and use of ultrasound, low bone mineral density and osteoporosis, evaluation for cortisol excess, androgens in women, how the new ATP guidelines will affect cardiovascular risk stratification, hyperparathyroidism, and management of the post-bariatric surgery patient. Other key areas include cutting-edge topics such as the gut microbiome and advances in the understanding of diabetes and obesity.

This CME activity is designated for 18.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the impact of recent clinical trials and guidelines on clinical care of patients with diabetes, including how to incorporate new agents
  • Explain the potential impact of exercise on mortality and exercise dysfunction in diabetes
  • Describe how genetic predisposition and environmental triggers contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes
  • Become familiar with the newest clinical trial data on diabetes outcomes with statins, omega-3 fatty acids and basal insulin, and anti-inflammatory agents
  • Discuss the most recent diagnostic and management strategies for hyperparathyroidism
  • Understand the risks and benefits of osteoporosis therapies, including how to manage premenopausal osteoporosis and when to consider stopping therapy
  • Outline the available evidence regarding androgens in women
  • Discuss recent developments in obesity therapies including the key issues in the care of post-bariatric surgery patients
  • Use the latest clinical evidence to assist in the diagnosis, evaluation and management of endogenous hypercortisolism
  • Describe major changes in paradigms for cholesterol treatment to reduce cardiovascular risk, including new guidelines
  • Identify relevant clinical issues in pregnancy and thyroid disease, and understand recent data in management of thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer

Lift tickets are valid on all mountains, Buttermilk, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Snowmass and they are valid from January 19 – 23, 2013. Sunday Dinner

Family members and guests (over 7 years of age) of conference registrants are invited to attend the dinner on Sunday evening for a fee of $25 per person. This fee can be paid at the time of registering for the conference if applicable.

Cancellations must be received no later than 10 days before the start of the program to receive a refund net of a $100 processing fee.
