Hello and welcome to Morgridge Academy at National Jewish Health! Thank you for logging on to our site and learning more about this special little school.

I received my education through the University of Arkansas system earning a Master's Degree in Educational Administration. In 1972, I began my teaching career and added administrative responsibilities in 1975. For the first 31 years of my professional career, I worked in Arkansas public schools and have been a school administrator in Colorado for the past 10 years. I am beginning my 9th year as the principal of Morgridge Academy, my 39th year as a principal, and my 42nd year as an educator. I am married to Dr. Linda Reid, Associate Professor of Education at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, Arkansas. We have three children and one grandchild.

Becoming a principal was not something I planned. When an administrative position became available in my school district, I was a middle school coach and science teacher with no interest in applying for the job. It came as a complete surprise when I was called to the superintendent's office and offered the position. Although I was only 25 years old and had less than three years of teaching experience, I accepted the challenge. Thirty-nine years later, I still consider each school year to be a new and interesting challenge. This is especially true here at Morgridge Academy as the intrinsic rewards are so great. My philosophy of education is quite simple. When taught at their own individual level of understanding in a safe, friendly, and caring environment, I believe all children can and will learn. Morgridge Academy has that kind of environment and children do learn here.

Finding Morgridge Academy was either luck, or maybe divine intervention. In the summer of 2005 I moved to Greeley from Saguache, Colorado where I had been the principal of a K-12 school for two years. At that time, my wife was teaching and pursuing her Doctorate of Education at the University of Northern Colorado and I wanted to join her there in Greeley. I responded to the application for Director of Education at Morgridge Academy on the National Jewish website and the rest is history.

In my final years as a career educator, working at Morgridge Academy has represented personal fulfillment for me. Morgridge Academy is such a unique and special place. The freedom to expose medically fragile students to whole child instruction is unparalleled outside this facility. Watching a struggling special needs child begin to blossom physically, emotionally, socially, and academically offers the greatest of all rewards. Progress and success are measured daily at Morgridge Academy.

In my spare time, I do enjoy other interests, including family, faith, reading, gardening and travel. I also enjoy taking an old piece of broken down antique furniture and making it useful and beautiful again. To me, old furniture parallels human life. Even when appearing aged and seemingly useless, there is beauty hiding just beneath the surface simply waiting to be reclaimed.

I also try to practice a little "Southern Hospitality" for our guests at Morgridge Academy. So in closing, I would like to invite you to "Come see us when you can!" We will treat you like family and a tour of Morgridge Academy is something you will remember for a long, long time. And, it all begins with a visit to the principal's office.
