The goal of National Jewish Health’s Summer Research Program for High
School Educators (SuRP) is to enhance student interest and success in
the biologic sciences by providing authentic research opportunities for
high school biology teachers. Teachers spend 8 weeks each summer working in a research laboratory at National Jewish Health.
In particular, the program hopes to target under-served and minority student populations.
The deadline to apply for a summer research fellowship for this year has passed. Please check back later this year for 2013 fellowship information.

Professional Development
The program includes a weekly professional development series during the summer. This includes:
Attention Teachers
This summer you can obtain graduate-level relicensure credit via the Colorado School of Mines for your participation in the Professional Development series. Read more.
- Lectures on immunology and microbiology
- Best practices in pedagogy
- Demonstrations of experiments that can be done in the classroom
- Development of an experiment based on the summer research and to be done in the classroom
- Protected time for lesson planning to incorporate the research experience into your curriculum
Outreach
The program includes outreach to the classrooms of suRP teachers. During the school year, teams of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows provide help with experiment, scientific talks, and information about careers.
