For detailed information on AST Testing, please visit the Advanced Diagnostic Laboratories Test Menu.

National Jewish Health Mycobacteriology Laboratory provides comprehensive drug susceptibility testing for tuberculosis (antimicrobial), including M. tuberculosis complex and mycobacterium avium complex.

Tuberculosis Drug Susceptibility Testing Methods

  • Molecular line-probe assay/MDR TB screen for rifampin and isoniazid (INH).
  • Molecular line-probe assay/XDR TB screen for fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides/cyclic peptides (XDR TB). The assay testing allows also for ethambutol resistance.
  • Isoniazid, rifampin and ethambutol testing performed in a non-radiometric macrodilution assay using critical concentrations. For pyrazinamide we perform MICs. MICs also are available for isoniazid, rifampin and ethambutol upon request.
  • Isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol , ethionamide, streptomycin, capreomycin, kanamycin, amikacin, cycloserine and para-aminosalicylic acid (PAS) testing is performed using Middlebrook 7H11 agar proportion method.
