National Jewish Medical and Research Center
Names Stephen W. Arent Chairman of the Board of Directors

National Jewish Medical and Research Center has named prominent Denver attorney Stephen W. Arent Chairman of its Board of Directors. Arent, who has a long history of both national and local community service, has served on the National Jewish board for 10 years. Most recently, he chaired the committee formulating a new 5-10-year strategic plan for National Jewish and the Road Ahead Campaign , a major capital campaign.

"Stephen has been instrumental in helping National Jewish plan its future and securing the funds we will need to get Stephen W. Arent there," said outgoing Chairman David H. Engleberg. "He will be an invaluable resource as we move ahead."

Engleberg has served as Chairman since 2003 and will remain on the board.

"David has been an excellent Chairman," said Michael Salem , MD, President and CEO of National Jewish. "He has been a tireless and effective ambassador for National Jewish, reaching out to people around the nation. We are grateful for his efforts on our behalf."

Stephen Arent is a shareholder in the law firm of Fisher, Sweetbaum, Levin & Sands, PC, where he concentrates on transactional real estate matters with an emphasis on acquisitions and sales, development, financing and leasing. He received his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), and serves on its alumni board.

Mr. Arent has long been involved in community affairs. Among other organizations, he has served on the governing boards of Rose Medical Center and the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado. He also was Chairman of the Board for the Mountain States Region of the Anti-Defamation League and chaired the ADL's National Legal Affairs Committee.

"This is a dynamic time at National Jewish, with a new President and CEO, a new Board Chair, and a new strategic plan nearing completion,"said Mr. Arent. "I look forward to implementing several of our strategic initiatives, including increased faculty recruitment, and expansion into new clinical fields, and opening new locations."
