Free, Confidential Health Screening for Miners and Former Miners
Miners and former miners can sign up for a free, confidential health screening November 12 and 13, at Parkview Medical Center's Park West Campus, 3876 Parker Blvd. in Pueblo. The screenings will be performed by physicians and staff from the National Jewish Medical and Research Center, the top-ranked respiratory hospital in the nation.
Additional screenings will be performed at other sites around Colorado on future dates.
They will seek to identify miners and former miners suffering from silicosis, black lung, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and other respiratory diseases. The screenings will include a breathing test, chest X ray, physical examination and detailed work/medical history.
Letters will be mailed to participants and their primary care physicians detailing the results of the testing and recommendations for any follow-up care or testing. Early diagnosis of respiratory illnesses can improve quality of life, prolong survival, and help miners qualify for disability benefits.
