Polymyalgia Rheumatica: Associated Conditions

Polymyalgia rheumatica frequently occurs alongside temporal arteritis. It is unclear how or why the two conditions frequently occur together, but some people experience the two simultaneously or after the musculoskeletal symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatic have disappeared.

When undiagnosed or untreated, temporal arteritis can cause potentially serious problems, including permanent vision loss and stroke. Thus, it is important to look for symptoms of temporal arteritis in anyone diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica.
