Kunsberg classroom

Kunsberg School is a day school program for students in grades K – 8 who may require medical assistance during the normal school day. The school is approved by the Colorado Department of Education and is located on the grounds of National Jewish Health at 1400 Jackson Street, Denver, Colorado. There is no charge for students to attend Kunsberg. Children who attend the school have medical problems, which may cause frequent absences from school.

Experienced and Qualified Faculty

Teachers providing medical information to student Classroom teachers at Kunsberg hold master’s degrees in a variety of educational fields and are teacher certified by the State of Colorado. The majority of the teaching staff have extensive experience working with students who have asthma or other medical illnesses. Our staff is structured and fair in its teaching approach. We believe that structure promotes security, which enables students to develop a positive, responsible attitude toward life and school.

 

Individual Academic Attention With CDE Approved Curriculum

Students enrolled in the Kunsberg School follow an academic program augmented by arts and athletic offerings. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad-based education which emphasizes state standards while encouraging work for students in areas of special interest and competence. Small classes of 12 – 15 students encourage both group and individual learning experiences. Kunsberg is an accredited CDE Facility School and we follow the Colorado State curriculum in order to make the transition back to public school easier for the student.

 

Individual Educational Needs and Medical Support

All students receive individual educational and medical care at the Kunsberg school.At the Kunsberg School, we believe that school absences due to asthma and other chronic illnesses can be reduced. We also believe that academic, physical, social and emotional needs of students can be met with Educational and Disease Specific Case Management. The teaching staff operates student-centered classrooms addressing the educational needs of each child. Students know that if they are having a stressful day, they will receive medical assistance, if necessary, and be able to continue with their studies.

The goals of the educational program are to help students achieve academic and physical excellence and prepare them to become independent, self-reliant and responsible. With appropriate instruction, students can learn specific self-care practices, which will enable them to monitor.
