Dan Atkins, MD
is the Director of Pediatric Clinical Services at National Jewish
Health, and the Director of Allergy and Immunology Services at The
Children’s Hospital. He organizes the services where Fellows receive
their patient care experiences. He also direct patient care supervision
in specialty clinics, in triage, and in the Day Program. He is a
renowned expert in food allergies. He also provides Fellows with
lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and provides research
mentorship.
Allan Bock, MD
is a renowned expert in food allergies, who provides Fellows with
lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and also provides research
mentorship.
Mark Boguniewicz, MD
is a Pediatric Allergist at National Jewish Health and a renowned
expert in Atopic Dermatitis. He provides direct patient care
supervision in the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Continuity Clinic,
the Children’s Atopic Dermatitis Clinic, and in the Day Program. He
provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and
also provides research mentorship.
Donna Bratton, MD
is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Allergy and
Immunology. She is an authority on inflammatory mechanisms of airways
disease. She supervises Fellows in the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology
Continuity Clinic, and serves on the Training Program Committee. She
also supervised Fellows during their Day Program assignment. She also
provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and
provides research mentorship.
John Cambier, PhD
is the Head of the Immunology Department for UCHSC, which is based at
National Jewish Health. He is a renowned immunology scientist who is
responsible for several lecture series in immunology that enrich
Fellows’ understanding of this subject. He provides lectures in
immunology for the Fellows, as do numerous members of his basic
immunology faculty. He and other basic immunology faculty members
provide research mentorship to Fellows.
Ronina Covar, MD
is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Allergy and
Immunology. She has special interests in asthma and steroid response.
She supervises Fellows in the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Day
Program. She also provides Fellows with conference discussions, and
research mentorship.
Erwin Gelfand, MD
is Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at National Jewish Health
and Vice-Chairman for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of
Colorado Denver. He is also the Director of the Immunodeficiency Clinic
at National Jewish Health. He is a renowned authority in
immunodeficiency, mechanisms or asthma, and other aspects of basic
immunology. He is on the Training Program Committee and is committed to
assure residency training in immune deficiency disease. He provides a
weekly conference in the Immunodeficiency Clinic. He also provides
Fellows with lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and provides
research mentorship.
Patsy Giclas, PhD
is Co-Director of the Clinical Immunology Labs at National Jewish
Health. She is a renowned expert in complement biochemistry. She
provides Fellows with guidance in their experience in the Clinical
Immunology Labs. She also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and
conference discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Kim Kelsay, MD
is a Pediatric Psychiatrist and Co-Director of the Day Program. She
provides psychosocial consultation for most patients who are admitted
to the Day Program, as part of the multi-disciplinary team with the
Fellows and medical attendings. She organizes and oversees Team
Plan-of-Care Conference in the Day Program. She also provides Fellows
with lectures, rounds and conference discussions.
Gary Larsen, MD
is the Head of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at both National Jewish
Health and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado.
He is a renowned expert on pediatric asthma, and neurogenic mechanisms
in asthma. He assures Fellow training and supervision during their MOD
assignment. He also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and
conference discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Donald Leung, MD, PhD
is the Head of the Allergy/Immunology Division in the Department of
Pediatrics. Dr. Leung is a renowned authority in mechanisms of allergic
disease. He has numerous NIH R01 grants, serves as the Co-Director of
the NIH-funded General Clinical Research Center at UCHSC and National
Jewish Health, and he is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of
Allergy and Clinical Immunology, premier journal in the field. Dr.
Leung serves on the Training Program Committee. He organizes Combined
Allergy/Immunology Grand Rounds and the Quality Assurance Patient Care
Conferences. He also supervised Fellows during their Day Program
assignment. He also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and
conference discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Andrew H. Liu, MD
is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Allergy and
Immunology. His specialties include Allergic and Immunologic Diseases,
Asthma, Pharmacology, Allergy, Basic Immunology, Cellular and Molecular
Biology, Inflammation, Anaphylaxis, Animal Dander Sensitivity, Atopic
Dermatitis (eczema), Drug Allergy, Food Allergy, Immunodeficiency,
Insect Sting Allergy, Recurrent Infections, Rhinitis & Sinusitis
(allergic and non-allergic), Urticaria (acute & chronic), Steroid
Pharmacokinetics, Steroid Adverse Effects, Steroid Sensitivity and
Resistance, Immunomodulator Therapy, Cough (chronic), Wheezing infants,
Allergic Asthma, Exercise-Induced Asthma, Non-Allergic Asthma. He
supervises Fellows in the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Continuity
Clinic, Day Program, as MOD and serves on the Training Program
Committee. He also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and
conference discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Henry Milgrom, MD
is a senior faculty member in Pediatric Allergy. He is Co-Director of
the Pediatric Clinical Research Unit and National Jewish Health’s
Institutional Review Board for human subjects research. He provides
direct supervision of pediatric patients in the Day Program and as MOD.
He also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and conference
discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Nathan Rabinovitch, MD
is a pediatric allergist with research interests on the role of
environmental exposures in the school-age asthmatic child. He
supervises Fellows in the Day Program. He also provides Fellows with
lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and provides research
mentorship.
Joseph Spahn, MD
is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Pediatric
Allergy/Immunology Fellowship Program. He is also the Director of
Immunopharmacology Lab, Div of Clinical Pharmacology. Dr. Spahn is
responsible for the day-to-day management of the Fellowship program.
He organizes meetings with the Training Program Committee and with the
Fellows. He is also responsible for reporting on the Fellowship
program to the Allergy/Immunology Division, the Pediatric faculty, the
Pediatrics and Graduate Medical Education departments at the University
of Colorado Denver, and to such national organizations as ACGME and the
American Academy of Allergy, Asthma
& Immunology (AAAAI). He directly supervises Fellows in specialty
clinics, Day Program, and as MOD. He also provides Fellows with
lectures, rounds and conference discussions, and provides research
mentorship.
Stanley J. Szefler, MD
is the Head of the Clinical Pharmacology Division at National Jewish
Health. He is a renowned authority on the pharmacologic management of
pediatric asthma. He serves on the Training Program Committee. As the
immediate-past Training Program Director for this Fellowship Program
(1989 - 1994), his experience and commitment to this Fellowship program
is greatly valued. He also supervised Fellows during their Day Program
assignment. He also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and
conference discussions, and provides research mentorship.
Fred Wamboldt, PhD
is the Head of Psychosocial Medicine at National Jewish Health. He also
oversees the Biostatistics core facility at National Jewish Health. He
organizes courses and provides lectures that enrich Fellows
understanding of psychosocial aspects of chronic disease, and
biostatistical assessments in clinical research.
Carl White, MD
is a pediatric pulmonologist and authority on inflammatory mechanisms
of lung disease. He supervises Fellows during their MOD assignment. He
also provides Fellows with lectures, rounds and conference discussions,
and provides research mentorship.
