General Rules for Relaxation Exercises

  • Assume a comfortable position of sitting, leaning back, or lying down.  Close your eyes.
  • Loosen constricting garmets and remove jewelry.
  • Relax in a quiet, peaceful environment.  The Vicious Circle of Dyspnea: Breathing Difficulties leads to anxiety, muscle tension, and more breathing difficulties.
  • Allow enough time.
  • Schedule a relaxation period regularly.
  • Practice.  Practice.  Practice.

 

You Are Truly Relaxed When Your...
  • ... heart rate slows and becomes even.
  • ... breathing becomes deeper, slower, and more rhythmic.
  • ... muscles loosen and relax.
  • ... mind feels at peace.
  • ... entire body feels relaxed.
