Special Interests

Research Interests

Mari Numata-Nakamura has 14 years of experience as a clinical pulmonologist and works in broad range of medicine. She currently focuses on research investigating the role of pulmonary surfactant in regulating innate immunity in the lung, with special emphasis upon surfactant lipid antagonism of inflammation and viral infection. She discovered the anti-viral properties of the surfactant lipid palmitoyl-oleoyl-phophatidylglycerol (POPG). The long term goals of her research are to bring basic research observations to treatment of patients.
