Research Interests

Research related to asthma and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. My research is focused on exploring treatment strategies based on oxidative regulation of inflammation and immunity. Oxidative stress upregulates signal transduction pathways such as NFkappaB and AP-1 that are involved in the regulation of inflammatory cytokines. Our research group has developed antioxidants that are powerful scavengers of reactive oxygen radicals and inhibitors of redox sensitive signaling. These antioxidant mimetics are being tested in animal models of asthma and BPD to study the mechanisms of oxidative regulation of immune pathways. Their effectiveness as therapies for asthma and BPD are also evaluated.
