Research Interests

My major research focus is on pharmacotherapy of childhood asthma and predicting response to asthma therapy. I am the Principal Investigator for the Denver Site of the NHLBI Childhood Asthma Management Program Continuation Study that is a long term study on the effect of therapeutic intervention with anti-inflammatory therapy. I am also the Principal Investigator for the Denver Site of the NHLBI Childhood Asthma Research and Education Network. This multicenter collaborative network designs and conducts studies to address major issues of therapeutic intervention in childhood asthma. I am a Co-Investigator for the Denver Site of the NHLBI Asthma Clinical Research Network. Our site has lead a series of studies addressing significant clinical questions on the use of inhaled glucocorticoids in the treatment of asthma including patient phenotypes and genotypes associated with various degrees of response. I am also a co-investigator for the Denver Site of the NIAID Inner City Asthma Consortium. I serve as the chair of the Protocol Development Committee and lead a protocol on the effect of biomarker-guided asthma therapy. I am the Director of our center's site for a Colorado State Cardiovascular, Cancer and Pulmonary Disease Grant that focuses on asthma in the Denver Public School system. Our program is a combined epidemiology and outreach program designed to help reduce school absence due to asthma. Our research group is currently organizing efforts to investigate asthma progression, early infant asthma and the management of severe childhood asthma.
