Richard Schierburg Begins Tenure as Chair of National Jewish Health Board of Directors
National Jewish Health welcomed new
leadership on January, 25, 2012, as Richard A. Schierburg began his tenure as
Chair of the Board of Directors.
He succeeds outgoing chair, Thomas Gart, who
will continue to serve on the Board.
“It has been an extraordinary
and rewarding experience serving as board chair for National Jewish Health,”
said Mr. Gart. “I am happy to pass the
gavel to the very capable hands of Rich Schierburg. With his energy, expertise,
and knowledge of National Jewish Health, Rich will be an ideal leader during
this remarkable time. ”
Schierburg, a veteran developer
and investment broker, has founded several companies, including most recently Peregrine
Group Development LLC, a land development, retail and multi-family development
firm. He began his career as an investment broker at CB Richard Ellis.
Schierburg earned a bachelor’s degree from Seattle
University, and attended both Stanford University and University of Colorado
Master of Business Administration programs.
Schierburg joined the National
Jewish Health Board in 2004, and has served as chair of the institution’s Development
Board, and as a member of the Executive, facilities and real estate committees.
Schierburg is also board chair of Archdiocesan Housing, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the
International Council of Shopping Centers and the National Association of
Industrial and Office Parks. Schierburg and his wife, Linda, have two grown
children.
“As a Colorado
native, I am proud to have such an incredible, nationally recognized healthcare
institution in Denver,
and am honored be taking on this leadership for the institution,” said
Schierburg. “I look forward to an exciting and productive chapter in the
evolution of National Jewish Health.”
Gart, president of The Gart
Companies, joined the Board of Directors in 1995, and was appointed Chair in
2009. Previously he had served on the Finance and Investment committees. Mr.
Gart will remain on the board, serving on the executive committee and leading
capital fundraising efforts.
“Tom Gart has been an
outstanding board chair, leading National Jewish through a period of tremendous
growth and major achievements in the execution of our 10-year Strategic Plan,”
said Michael Salem, MD, President and CEO of National Jewish Health. “We are
grateful for the support our voluntary board members and trustees provide to
the institution. We could not continue
to be the #1 respiratory hospital in the nation without the leadership provided
by people like Tom Gart and Rich Schierburg.”
